^As a tank, the Tiger is a household name, and during the later half of World War 2, almost every Allied tank crew or ground attack pilot saw Tigers everywhere.

^A city must have both $LINK<oil=GOOD_Oil>, $LINK<rubber=GOOD_Rubber> and $LINK<iron=GOOD_Iron> in its
$LINK<Strategic Resource=GCON_ResourcesS> box to build the Tiger H.

^
^It was expensive, costing two and a half times the price of a Pz IV, and required vast amounts of man-hours and materials, two Panthers could be completed with the man-hours it took to build a Tiger. Its size and weight caused problems with transportation, as well as being too heavy for most bridges. It was also to heavy for the standard recovery vehicles used by the Germans. Needing 2, sometimes 3, SdKfz 9 18 tonne halftrack recovery vehicles to pull one tank. Its engine produced the same power out put as that of the Panther, but the Tiger was over 10 tonnes heavier. It was prone to breakdowns, especially the transmission, and to replace this required a turret lift. And despite all this, it was one of the most feared weapons of the war. And this was no doubt down to its size and its fearsome 8.8cm main gun.

^
^One of the two features, which gave the Tiger its formidable reputation was of cause its ability to survive hits by most enemy tanks at even close ranges. Joints were kept to a minimum, and where they were needed they were interlocked and wielded, making the joints as strong as possible. But of course, its armour thickness was its most important protection, as well as making the Tiger so heavy. Of course, the main purpose of all this metal and machinery was to get the tank into a position were it could engage and destroy the enemy, and give it as much protection as possible. The weapon of choice, said to be Hitlers choice at that, was of course the 88. In the case of the Tiger, the full designation was 8.8cm L/56 KwK 36. This weapon was a development of the 8.8cm Flak 18/36 anti aircraft gun.
